I'm down - count me in.

Rob deJong June 24th, 2010 08:10 AM

I am in too!

I read over at the ML wikia page and it basically says that Canon has pretty much locked up the T2i from 3rd party firmwares: State of the Latern: 1 year anniversary - Magic Lantern firmware development | Google Groups

But for those who would still like to bug Canon about T2i features, contact info is below:

carecenter@cits.canon.com

1-800-828-4040 (choose tech support option and tell the operator you want to fill out a "Canon Customer Voice" request).

I asked them to make it possible to disable the AGC on the T2i in a future update. It only took 5 min. If enough people bug them they might buckle (like they did with the 5D MK2)

Torben Scharling June 24th, 2010 08:38 PM

I would gladly pay for a fix..meanwhile I'll bug Canon about it and hope everyone else does the same.

I ve been testing in the ML program since last year when Trammel Hudson first fired up his plan to crack the camera. It has been amazing, and interesting. I have the T2i and had similar hopes for it. But I can tell that Canon has locked things down pretty tight on both the 7D and the T2i. Reading between the lines of Trammels posts, he is thinking its going to take a lot more time than he has to get into the cameras. Its almost as if Canon is saying, if you are going to get into one of our cameras, its going to be the higher priced one.....

Ed Kishel June 25th, 2010 01:36 PM

even on Canon's cheaper HV and HF models you can turn off AGC- so they are aware that some users don't want that feature as it has drawbacks. They should at least give us the option that is avail on their less expensive models.....

I'm not expecting raw out or anthing, come-on kill the AGC at least. Saves alot of time from having to sync in post.

chip in

hi,
I am happy to chip in.
Can all the people who wish to chip in just declare it on this thread. Every person that chips in brings the mean price down.

I remember reading in this thread about the need for a firmware update in order to start the magic lantern process and getting the author to produce it. So i wanted to bump this and to see if we can get something going.

http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-eo...-v1-0-8-a.html

That's a thread in there forums that mentions the upgrade, here is a direct link to canon's site for the update:

Canon EOS REBEL T2i / 550D Firmware Update

Would love to see if this opens the possibilitty for us T2i users

James Donnelly July 8th, 2010 03:52 AM

I think it is a firmware dump that is required. The firmware image in the official update will be encrypted, so you can't start to reverse engineer it.

The problem seems to be that the usual methods of getting a Canon to dump it's firmware are not applicable to the t2i, so I guess they really don't want us to hack. My bet is still on the hackers though.

B.J. Szabicot July 9th, 2010 06:22 PM

I'm in for $20 if this is still a going concern.

Ed Kishel July 10th, 2010 02:27 PM

for all the new posters who are wanting to chip in- note that the guy who cracked the 5D said he can't do it for the T2i (see the wiki on ML) so I would suggest this:

rather than just offering to chip in (or in addition to) please contact canon and log a formal complaint- the contact info is above (post #63). IF the T2i firmware can't be cracked then canon is the last hope. If they get enough owners wanting these changes something might happen

it only takes 5 minutes

Brad Higerd July 20th, 2010 01:17 PM

Good word Ed!

I just wrote Canon, and shared that we're looking to buy more T2i's (we have two already), but we can't justify the purchase until the AGC issue is resolved. I requested zebra stripes too. In effect, I shared that, without the update, these cameras are limited to impact shots and shoots with independent audio recording. Hopefully, they'll respond if we keep the emails flowing.

CANON's RESPONSE:

"I understand that you would want firmware released for a feature much
desired by your EOS Digital Rebel T2i, but unfortunately there is no
such update that will allow for a feature that is not created for your
camera. There may be, however, other third party programs that may
create the effect that you are seeking through post production. I am
sorry for the inconvenience that this may have caused you."
