550D Gig lens and other equipment.

I'm currently using a 550d with just the normal stock lens. It's done me fine but i definitely feel as though i need to add to my arsenal.

I was firstly looking at the Canon 50mm 1.8 but i was curious if 50mm for gigs may put me too close to the subject?

I was also looking at a wide angle, I saw the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 and to me currently it's way out of my price range.

Also, what do you guys think about the D|focus? from D|Focus - The Affordable Follow Focus System - dfocussystem.com

I should really bite the bullet about how costly this profession is ahaha.
Cheers.

You should also consider the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. It's wider, faster, and better built than the Canon 50mm f/1.8.

Not always, deals are out there to be had. Just need to be hyper-vigilant on craigslist for used and inexpensive good gear, scour sites like Cheesycam.com and our own sales board.

Concerning the D Focus, I've had it for a few months now and it's done a great job. One of the gears did start to slip a bit after a month of heavy use but I contacted the company who promptly got back to me on what to tighten, getting it back into full working order.
