I noticed that the focal plane drops off in a few scenes... like the guy working on his scooter. Why is that?

Dan Chung November 25th, 2008 04:40 AM

Josh,
That's an 85mm shift lens specifically designed to do just that.

Don,
I don't have access to anywhere I can host 1080p, does anyone?

Bob,
I had onlookers but not as many as I thought I might attract with a big rig. It is a different experience to shooting stills though.

We'll hook you up, Dan -- I'll contact you via email and get you set up for FTP upload access directly to DV Info Net.

Dan Chung November 25th, 2008 12:55 PM

Chris,

That's great, how big a file can you handle?

Dan

Chris Hurd November 25th, 2008 01:33 PM

We can handle a pretty good size -- contact me via email, chris at dvinfo dot net -- we'll work it out.

Chris Hurd November 25th, 2008 11:41 PM

Dan's full 1080p clip can be downloaded at http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/photo-hd-...-5d-mk-ii.html

Nope.............

The QuickTime curse on Win XP strikes again.

Everything just falls in a heap.

Shame, would have enjoyed watching that.

I get the start of the Guardian logo intro then it simply dissapears up it's own exhaust pipe.

Bugger.

You could try downloading VLC and watching it. It works on my Mac, at least.

Nope.............

Just manages to hang the entire system even better than before.

Going backwards here.....

Whatever happened to "cross platform operability"?

Probably mowed down by a bloody train.

The problem seems to be that the server doesn't give me an option to either save or run. Run is it, and Quicktime is the run of it's choice. Instant "up exhaust pipe".

You should be able to right-click on the link in the sticky and do a 'Save as...' or 'Download Link Target...' depending on your browser.

Dan - loved your video and am so excited about the possibilities with this camera.

Dan or anyone here: I read that you converted your clips to Pro Res 422. I am trying to visualize that process. Did you set up a Pro Res 422 sequence in FCP and just import your clips that way, render and export or did you use Compressor or Quicktime Pro to convert. Probably a basic process I am for some reason unsure as to the best approach.

Any info / advice is greatly appreciated.

Dan, thanks for the shots. Makes me want to visit Beijing. Quick semi OT. What is the object the people are kicking in the vimeo video that looks like a feathered lawn dart?

Dan used the free application MPEG Streamclip (according to another of his posts).

When working with a lot of footage, I'd be inclined to make a rough cut in the native H.264 before transcoding, to save time and drive space. Then CC the Prores version.

I also use Episode but I'm no compression expert. I'd also be curious to know if there's any difference in the quality of H.264 > Prores transcoding between Compressor, MPEG Streamclip, Episode, and a straight export from FCP.

Is it not possible to turn off the overlay? I would like to record the HDMI directly to a computer.

After watching the clip "Prism", I get the feeling I'm watching the Korean version of "Reverie".

Not that that it's a bad thing but the similarity is uncanny. A guy in a white suit traveling around looking for a beautiful girl...blah blah blah. All that is missing is the helicopter.

Both nicely done, showing the awesome video from the 5Dll.
