Here's the email I got back from my inquiry:

"Yes, the plate on the bottom of the MHE52-RCM does have a ¼” thread at the bottom and can be attached to a tripod. The price of the MHE52 is $194.00 USD. Also, please note that the MHE52 now includes the swing away connector, but we currently only have the left swing away version available, so that is the one that would be included.

From the looks it the 7D has pretty similar body to the 5D so it most likely will fit it as well, if not, most likely just a spacer would be needed to make it fit, so it should be no problem."

In another email he said the right swing-away will be available in a couple of weeks.
