help ! - 85mm non-threaded filters

hi every body !
i'm new to this board - i'v been listening to this forum for
the last couple of months and finally i bought a new GL2 from my
local store....
i bought a cheap filter sets and lens combo from
Ebay. They sent me the correct set of 3 filters (58mm) ..a correct
tele 2x lens.. and a 0.45 WideAngle lens w/macro that is different (wrong one ) than the one displayed on Ebay pictures.
I tested this wrong one and it works very good, in deed i believe
this is a very high quality one (well, compare to my friend's one).
The problem is one of its end is threaded 58mm but it fans out
to a non-threaded 85mm end.
I tried to sandwich an aluminum thin filter in between the GL2 main lens .....and this WA bended the threads of the aluminum filter because this WA lens is too heavy.
Can any one show me where to get the no-thread 85mm filters.

PS. my included GL2 lens hood is not large enough to cover the
85mm WA lens. So i also need a larger lens hood, please show.

I'll be taping in North Vietnam in about a week.

Thanks all

Thanks alot

You have a wide angle adapter without a filter thread. You need a clamp on filter holder or a mattebox. There is no cheap way out of this predicament. The fact that it is a .45 Wide angle means you're pretty well stuck using 4x4" filters. The 85mm barrel knocks the lower priced century optics filter holders out of the picture as well.

Cavision have a lower priced clamp on 4x4 matte box at around 375 plus 5 or $10- for an adapter ring. The 4x4 filter prices are pretty steep as well. You may have a problem finding a suitable sun shade for a .45 Wide Angle. Call jason at cavision (number is on the web site)

Have a look at these sites.

Your other option is to buy another wide-angle lense adapter with filter threads on the front... but it's still not a cheap fix, and you'll have to get another set of filters for it, too.

4"x4" filters, a clip-on hood and duct tape. That's a cheap fix and works. Not very versatile of course, but you pays your money...

Finding a shade for an 85mm barrel on a .45 WA is the big chore.

Yep. that did occur to me and I had a look at B&H to see if they're available. Without knowing the exact lens it's hard to say but there is some stuff there.

All you need to know is .45 wide Angle and 85mm OD lens barrel.
This one may work, it's for a .5 WA. It also has a 105mm filter thread.
LH100PW Same as LH100P but with shallower sunshade for wider angle lens is $60 US a metal back mount is $100 US. I have an LH100P and the plastic back mount is just fine

You'll also need a 100 to 85mm adapter ring to step the back mount down to 85mm,that's the princely sum of $5 US.

For $10 you can also buy a soft , padded slip on cover for the sunshade
