Stills/pictures come out with settings unchanged?

Whenever I take pictures/stills and I have setted the white balance, it doesn't appear (unchanged) after you view the stills. Like what I'm saying is, If I set the white balance and manually tweak some settings so the picture is very clear and bright and take a photo still, the outcome remains unchanged like very dull as if it was before the white balance or I never set it at all.... Hmm... maybe I am doing something wrong or maybe it's just the limitations of the GL2?

What I mean is that when I tweak the settings manually including the white balance, and I take a still, it seems the photo remains as if i never set the settings at all, like some sort of fixed defaultness.
