I am a college student looking at a GL2, need some information.

Hi,

I am very new to these boards (this is my first post) and I would like to know if there are any websites I can visit which have movies or just random footage shot with the GL2. I am going to be leaving for UCSB in the winter and I have recently taken a great interest in amateur filmmaking. Over the summer a friend and I filmed the footage for a 15min short which we hope to complete by December. Anyway, this is a big purchase for me (and my parents) and I would just like to know if there are any places where I can see what this camera can do. Thank you very much for your time.

Hi Matt, the only stuff I know of is in Barry's review which is a stuck topic at the top of this forum. He has some links pointing to stills, moving images and resolution charts and things that might be inf interest to you.

Cheers

Is there anywhere in your home town where they sell this equipment? Any place worth its salt should let you try one out. You can lie and say you're definitely planning to buy from them, but need to see the merchandise first.

If you are going to be in Santa Barbara prior to the start of school (finding housing, checking out the babes..whatever) you can stop by Samy's on Milpas street. They have the Gl2, as well as the xl1 and various Sony competitors. Take a tape with you, I'm sure they'll let you take it outside for a few minutes. Also, they probably have one in rental that you can check out for a day...they'll usually credit your rental fee to the purchase price if you buy from them. Samy's is a good place to get to know if you'll be spending a few years in S.B.

Also Calumet has a store on Cota street. Ramiro is the manager and a good friend, he's been selling cameras in S.B. since I was in school, and has been very helpful over the years.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm going to check out those stores you told me about. I cannot wait to get the camera so I can start cranking out some of these ideas that I have. I'm going to call retailers in my area (suburb of Sacramento) today and see if they will let me get my hands on this bad boy. Thanks again, I know this won't be the last time I need advice.
