HV20 - cannot do END SEARCH

Hi

I would like to do end search on my tape during playback.

It used to work before, but now this menu item is disabled in the menu and I cannot select it.

What am I missing?

Thanks
Slava

Have you ejected the tape at all since recording the material?

Yes, I have

Does it work only if tape is never ejected?

Strange

Thanks

Alas, that is how it works. (See the Notes on pg. 32 of the HV20 NTSC manual)

Once you've manually found the end though, as you append more recordings after it, the camera will remember the new end until the next time you eject the tape.

The alternative is to buy DV tapes that have memory chips which will allow you to an end search regardless of having ejected the tape.

Canon camcorders can't read that chip. Only certain Sony camcorders can make use of it.
