Suitable memory card for HV10?

Greetings from the land of PAL. I am a complete n00b to the world of HDV but have been living with the Canon for exactly 2 weeks now so expect a barrage of stupid questions in the near future.

I have yet to buy a miniSD card but notice the headnote on P86 of the European manual says "This camcorder has been tested with miniSD cards up to 1 Gb. Performance cannot be guaranteed for all miniSD cards"

So the obvious question is: Has anybody installed and successfully initialised a 2Gb card. Here in the UK I can buy 2Gb miniSD cards for GBP17.99 and it seems silly to install anything smaller at that price. In your reply perhaps you can mention the brand of your particular card as it may prove useful to others following this thread.

There's no reason why a 2GB card wouldn't work with the HV10. Why not give it a shot and let us know how it goes for you... it's not a lot of money to risk anyway.

Is there an error in the price you wrote? Or did you mean gigabit? I have a two gigabit (256MB) card that works fine.

we ordered the hv10 for our company and I have a 2gb card for our d2x and a 1gig for the eos20d, so will test out both sizes and will post back once we have the hv10 in hand, which is by next week.

No error on the price, Jeff. 2Gb is eight times the capacity of you 256Mb card. Canon say they have not tested any cards greater than 1Gb capacity, hence my enquiry. I would have thought 2Gb sized cards would be available in the land of NTSC for around 30-35 bucks since we can buy them here for 18 quid.

trevor, that's just standard boilerplate. all of canon's cameras (i have 2 still cams and 3 video cams) say things like "warning: use only canon-branded memory cards"--ignore it. a card by any other name (or size) shoots as sweet.

I bought a ScanDisk 2GB Ultra II and it works fine in the HV10... you get about 1000 shots so it should keep you going for a while.
