High speed driving through Sydney at night

I shot this a few weeks ago during a trip to the city and back, my wife was driving. I'd seen something like this before done on the XHA1, which I think was prove that you didn't need an overpriced variable frame rate camera to achieve shots like this. So I guess this is proof you don't even need something as expensive as an XHA1! There's a few parts that go out of focus, so I'll have to set the focus manually next time. But overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. There's a BIG plug for Canon in there, which I was going to remove, except that it kind of fit the change in the music.

Technical stuff - Shot in TV mode at 1/6 second shutter speed. Sped up in Vegas 4x, which is the maximum, rendered and then sped up 3x.

Anyway, here it is, roughly 83mb - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N2Y01FVY

Also, incase anyone's interested, I did the music using Acid 6 which took about 2 hours total. You can hear the full track on my MySpace page here - http://www.myspace.com/avene

"The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable"

Glenn Thomas June 25th, 2007 01:50 AM

That's weird, I just tested it and works fine.

Steve Jones June 25th, 2007 01:08 PM

Hi Glenn,

I'm also getting "The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable."

best,

Steve.

Mikon Haaksman June 25th, 2007 01:52 PM

Me too. Can't access

Glenn Thomas June 25th, 2007 02:31 PM

Strange, it still works here. I'll upload it to my Stage 6 page.. That should work.

Steve MacDonald June 26th, 2007 01:41 PM

The download worked for me. Man your wife drives fast!! Very nicely done. This reminds me of...forget his name, but he's famous for all his high speed, high def footage on INHD channel.

Glenn Thomas June 26th, 2007 10:22 PM

Hi Steve, thanks, glad someone got it to work! I don't know of the guy you're talking about, but curious to see what he's done. Might have a look.

The clip's just been published on my Stage 6 page, which took a while. It's a 720P version also. URL - http://stage6.divx.com/user/avene This should stream in realtime once it's buffered for a few seconds. Can be downloaded too of course. Roughly 63mb

I've also posted it to my Myspace videos page if you're on a slower connection. URL - http://www.myspace.com/avenemovies

The WMV version is still the best, if you can get it to work.

It looks really cool!
Like the editing and the music fit well, good job and thx for sharing!

Cheers!

That is just superb!

Seriously, that turned out really really nice!

?

When you say "1/6 second shutter speed"...

how do you set that with the cam?

Blake Calhoun July 2nd, 2007 09:47 AM

Nice work. Curious, how'd you mount the camera? Looked pretty steady. Thanks.

Glenn Thomas July 11th, 2007 11:40 AM

Thanks for the comments. I had the camera in TV mode with the shutter speed set to 1/6. It was on a small Manfrotto tripod that I held onto. There wasn't much space for it though.

Mark Ross July 13th, 2007 12:41 PM

Nice, nice, NICE! Very inspirational.

Glenn Thomas July 14th, 2007 02:20 AM

Hi Mark, thanks for the kind comment. First time anyone's ever called something I've done inspirational!

Matt Crosby July 14th, 2007 03:53 AM

really wonderful!

Loved this Glenn. Can see why you didn't want to cut the canon sign - it does fit the music! Did you zoom in to the back of the bus, or was that just the motion of the bus and your car? And the music is nice too... well done!
