You can adjust the iris while recording using the front custom button. I do this all the time in conjunction with the Zebra stripes.

In manual mode, you can adjust iris (or shutter or gain) while recording with the front custom dial if you setup the dial to control exposure. See page 96 of the manual.

Re: XA-20 is a fine camera

If past history is any indication, the XA20 replacement might be expected around three years after release of the XA20, but that is pure speculation. Consider for example that the GL2 was not replaced (unless you consider the XH-A1 to have been its replacement). The announcement will typically be well in advance of the availability date to allow for purchase planning.

Price is anyone's guess, but history indicates that it will be generally in line with the XA20 price point adjusted for inflation and market place conditions.

Only Canon knows and they are not saying (unless something is being leaked or announced at NAB).

Bottom line is buy it when you need it but be sure to allow for time learning curve befoer a money shoot.

Khalil,
I presume you are referring to the updated Firmware Version 1.0.4.0, which was issued on 17th April 2014 ?

Sorry for the long delay as I just now saw this. The "vertical hot shoe" that you are referring to is not really a hot shoe. It is simply a piece of aluminum plate that I fabricated. Just plate bent at a right angle and then holes drilled to match the wireless mic's mounting holes. I drilled a couple holes in the Rode mic holder and bolted the aluminum plate to the under side using simple machine screws. Just a little home brew ingenuity is all.
