XF shoulder mounted version? at DVinfo.net

I've been out of pocket for some time now and haven't really kept up to date on news so I was wondering...Has there been any news or mention as to when Canon or if Canon is going to produce a shoulder mounted version of the XF camera similar to the XL versions?

No, there has been no news. However...

Here is my answer to this same question which came up in a related discussion thread elsewhere on this forum:

"Actually it's very easy to predict (the advent of a shoulder mounted version of the XF) if you study the previous history of their camera announcements. For example, the XL H1 made its debut at the Canon Global Expo in New York back in September 2005. That show comes around once every five years. It will happen again this September. I don't have any inside information on their new camera releases and I have not been NDA'ed on anything coming up (if I had then I wouldn't be posting this), so I'm just making a prediction here. My predictions are usually pretty accurate and in this case it's not hard to put two and two together."

What's really important to understand here is this: if there's a shoulder mount version coming soon, and if it's an "XL F" or some iteration of the XL line, then the XL designation tells you what the sensor size will be: one-third inch. I've read elsewhere online the big dreams some folks have for "the next XL" and it invariably includes APS-C chips, or Full frame, or 2/3rd, or APS-H, or whatever. If it's XL, it's one-third. Otherwise it isn't XL. Hope this helps,

Excellent prediction, Chris. Could well be right.

We have an XF300 we've been using in the field for about a month now. We love the images we're getting from it... excellent lens on this cam, though it does have its quirks. Focussing can be difficult in low light, even with the two peaking options.

Because the LCD screen is so far forward on this new camera (compared to the old XH-A1) you can just about lodge it into your shoulder and comfortably view the image in the LCD. Not the same as a proper shoulder-mount cam of course. Also, the ability to slap a proper manual lenses on the front of an XF-whatever would be awesome! So, hope you're right!
