I can't figure it out? External monitor

I don't know if this should be an xha1 question or a vegas question.

I am needing to edit a video but I need to see it on the tv. I used to do this with my gl2. Just ran it to it and then I could see it on the screen.

So what does the camera need to be set on so that it knows there is an incoming signal and what settings need to be in Sony Vegas if any.

Also when I open Sony Vegas and choose the fire wire as my external monitor it says Hot pluggable device
