I guess that depends on what you mean about downconverting seamlessly in the camera.

Yes the HVX200 can record variable frame rates to P2 and yes it down converts HD to SD and records that to tape. But I don't believe that you can downconvert from P2 in the camera to record the variable frame rate SD.?
