A1 audio cap differences - jvc deck vs. A1

I know that when others have given me mini dv tapes they captured w/ a camcorder in LP (!), typically I can't capture the tape without audio problems. If I have the same camcorder that recorded the tape, no problem, but otherwise it doesn't work well (and I try to avoid it).

Seems like something similar happens with the A1 in SD but in regular SP mode. I taped a 1 hour live performance in SD 16:9 with the A1, and almost without thinking about it (part of the problem), I used my JVC deck to capture that SD tape (with 1 other) and start my rough cut.

I noticed a distinctively tinny sound in 1 audio track that I fed into the cam from the sound board. I didn't think I clipped the audio .. it took me about a week, and then I realized where I'd heard that sound before..capturing in LP on the JVC deck from any consumer camcorder.

So I recaptured the tape just now, but used the A1 to do the capture (which I was hoping to avoid for SD). Sure enough, the tinny sound is gone. (and, I've used other canon cams captured with the JVC HR-DVS3U before in SP no problem).

Lesson learned for me (which among other things means that I've got to re-sync 1 or maybe 2 of my audio tracks which is a bit of a pain b/c I've split my tracks in order to sync 2 cams from 2 different shows!).

I have 2 short samples I made as an example (256k each), one with the tinny sound and one without, but can't post them (maybe I don't have enough posts on this board or some other reason).

Anyway, just something I found out (the hard way) so thought I'd share. Maybe time to buy a firestore since I don't really want to use the A1 as a capture deck!
