I can definitely attest to the durability of that type of generic ebay-bought case. I have one that has lasted me for two cameras thus far and it is in tip top shape. Another guy I know keeps his very expensive Nikon SLR and a few expensive lenses in his, and it too has served him extremely well. You can drop these things down a stairwell and not worry. You custom pluck the foam so that it can be a perfect fit for your camera.

However, I have a DVX, so the size difference needs are obvious. Just do some measuring based on the measurements of this box's internal dimensions vs. your XL2 and you'll know if it's a fit. I can't remember the dimensions of mine and I have only once handled an XL1s so I can't attest to the fit of this particular one you're mentioning.

Bad idea. This case on eBay will NOT be big enough. The seller just puts up a bunch of letters and numbers hoping to attract customers.

The camera dimensions are 8.9" W x 8.7" H x 19.5" L. With the 20x lens and the mic mounted, it's over 22" long. The case you are looking at is 6.3 inches deep and is nowhere deep enough, let alone long enough to fit the camera.

You are better of going with the other suggestion of a cheapo rolling suitcase and then filling it with foam. Maybe you can find some pick and pluck foam big enough to fit inside. If you can't find any, you could find the nearest sized Pelican case pick n pluck foam and then put that into the suitcase and use that until you can get a proper hardcase or Porta Brace. Be sure you have a good couple of inches of foam all the way around, especially on top, where the lid comes down and covers the whole thing. If you can get some hard plastic or coroplast to help "armor" the case, that would be good too.

As others have stated, don't skimp on a case, it's worth the extra bucks to protect your investment.

Ahh, Thanks a lot man. I messaged the seller several times about the size and I got no response. So I guess that is why. I was scared of it not fitting. Looks like I will just have to find another temporary alternative. Thanks!
