Gloomy Melancholy Settings? (Michele Lombardo PLEASE)

Im going to be working on a small personal film and I am trying to achieve a Gloomy look, somewhat like Michele Lombardo did in this thread

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40621

I think that's some amazing settings. Also what's the deal with the sharpness? Less sharpness is better, I have searched a lot about this and some people like + and some like -

Thanks again GUYS!

If you are using premiere, the magic bullet plugin combined with proc amp filter will get you the look. Try to stay away from brightness/contrast as this is where post production grain comes from.

The black diffusion filter is available via download once you have registered premiere. Look for the link embedded in the filter library within premiere. That'll soften edge details nicely. De-saturate to your liking with proc amp. Then you can select the colour range with colour correction.

From dreamy to gloomy, the tools are right there.
