XL2 replacement?

I use 2 XL2's to film a small television show and it is time to replace them. We would like to go to HD, what camera(s) would you recommend I look at? I like the interface of the XL2's and how easily it interfaces with Adobe, I was hoping to stay with Canon, but, am open to other brands. Price is not a huge issue. Thx

Re: XL2 replacement?

Lupe,

I went to an xlh1 and I totally love the ability to adjust you image, just like the xl2. No other camera gives you so much latitude, at least for the price.
I also use a Sony and I like it but I do not really like the cmos sensors.

If it were just studio work I would recomend the canon 305 for a number of reasons. check out the review and specs

Re: XL2 replacement?

Lupe,
The camera world is at your feet. I think you'll find all the cameras from Sony, Canon, Panasonic and JVC give you staggering control over the HD image. Naturally, the XL-H1 will have the closest affinity to the XL2 in terms of it's feel, layout and controls but I think they are hard to come by new.

Maybe the first thing to do is decide if interchangeable lenses is important. Modern cameras are solid state so if dual recording for backup is important, that will help you narrow down the possibilities.

Another technique being used to is connect an external recorder to a camera's SDI output and capture uncompressed. YMMV

In addition to reading the many many many many threads asking "What camera should I buy" here on DVInfo, I find it helpful to use the B&H or Adorama websites to show the cameras in price order then examine the features of each one in my price range that has the features that are important to me.
