Need help understanding presets

Just got my XL2 today to replace my trusty XL-1s. Like saying good bye to an old friend. Anyway, I'm baffled by knees, and black stretching and coring and all the gamma nuances. I'm not looking for a bunch of presets to download, but just a discussion of what all these presets are, what they do, and how they interact with each other. Is there redundancy among them, or is each slightly different? Anywhere to read about this? The forum seems not to serve the adjustment novice.

Start here:

Watch the XL2 features tour, then come back and ask questions. It should give you a general idea... it is about half way down the page.

Ash,

After downloading the presets and opening them up in my text editor, there are a few settings where I can't figure out what their numbers should be. For settings which have clearly defined ranges, such as Coring (-6 to +6), the settings are obvious. However, for settings such as Gamma, does 1=Normal or Cine? Below are the ones I'm having trouble decoding;

Gamma - Video= Cine=
Knee - High= Middle= Low=
Black - Stretch= Normal= Press=
Vertical Detail - Normal= Low=
Noise Reduction - OFF= High= Normal= Low=

Thanks for any help.

For those Mac users in the crowd who want to be able to plug in the settings from the .bbp preset files from this thread...

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=48287

...below is a key to some of the settings that might not seem readily apparent at first glance;

GAMMA - Video = 0 / Cine = 1

KNEE - High = 0 / Middle = 1 / Low = 2

BLACK - Stretch = 0 / Normal = 1 / Press = 2

VERTICAL DETAIL - Normal = 0 / Low = 1

COLOR MATRIX - Video = 0 / Cine = 1

NOISE REDUCTION - OFF = 0 / High = 1 / Normal = 2 / Low= 3

You'll need to download and then open the .bbp files with your text editor, and manually change the settings in your XL2. Hope this helps.
