Manual lens
I'm looking into getting a manual lens for my XL2, but I don't really know where to begin.
Is it worth buying a manual lens with the same mount as the 20x auto lens that comes as standard? or is it better (and by better I mean cheaper) to get another brand of lens and a mount. If I'm being really naive and idealistic, I'd like the option of tracking focus but I understand that that pushes the price right up. This is looking to the future really as I'm in no situation financially to buy one right now, but if I have a price to work towards that'd be great. Can people post what set ups they have and what advantages there are to their set up. If you could say roughly how much you spent, that'd be brilliant. |

Hi Owen,
Here's an article on the lens choices for XL cameras excepting the XL H1's new HD20x lens: http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxl2/articles/article04.php At the bottom is a paragraph on the EF adapter; if that might be of interest to you, do searches in the XL1/XL1s, XL2, and XL H1 forums; there are many discussions about using the EF and various lenses.
