Matching XL2 with XM2(gl2) at DVinfo.net

Long time reader on this great forum, but now it's time for me to seek some advice.
I'm from Croatia (in Europe) and am in a wedding business for about 6 months now.
It's time for me to get a 2nd camera and I'm 99% sure it's going to be XL2.
I know there is a lot of talk about HD, but here in Croatia we are at least 2 years behind with technology so I ruled that out.

My question is: is it possible to match XL2 in 16:9 with GL2.
I know the difference in picture quality is big, but to an average viewer can it be done?
