Loose tripod socket - Local repair?

The tripod socket on my XL2 is loose. It rattles and is adding unwanted audio when attached to my monopod, which I use a lot. Even when the tripod mounting plate screw is tightened there is movement and I need to get it fixed. My question is whether or not this is a problem I could get repaired locally (I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area) or is it going to require a trip to a service center?
