Porta Brace - CTC-3 or CTC-4?
I'm purchasing an XL2 and I'm debating about which case to buy. It seems that either of these two will work, but I want the camera to fit without removing any items. The cases appear to be identical except for 3" in length.
Specifically, I'd like to be able to carry it with both the matte box on the front and the A/B Gold Mount and battery on the back. The matte box is just a hard shade 2-filter type (not bellows). Is anyone running this setup? Is the 22" CTC-3 long enough? Or do I need to go with the 25" CTC-4? I'm fine with either one but I don't want more than I need. Thanks! |
Hi,
I use a backpack from Lowepro. The model titel is LensTrekker 600. In that one I can fit the XL2 with all the orginal stuf on + lots of tapes, extra mic, cabels, batterys. If you still using the orginal mic holder, than the bag is lilte to thin, but you can close it. I removed it ('cous it not in use anymore) so now the camera fits perfect. Markus Nord |
Funny you should ask that question. Just this morning I got a periodic email from StudentFimmakers, that took me to a couple of links that show all the Porta Brace cases for the XL 2. In any event, I would go with the extra 3 inches.

Depends what you'll be using it for. Check out this thread from an earlier discussion. I use the CTC-3, mostly because I travel and it's small enough to take as carry-on baggage. I have the AB Goldmount w/Dionic90 batteries. I can fit the camera, the Goldmount, the AB Ultralight 2 (not attached to the camera), and a slew of batteries/wireless mics/etc. in the bag. No inside pockets, mind you, but in ziploc baggies padded around the camera. Don't know about the matte box, though. Jonathan |
Jonathan,
Is there any extra room (length) in the CTC-3 when you have the battery mount on? or is it pretty snug in there? |
I'd say there's still a couple inches on both ends with the Dionic-90 attached to the Gold Mount. The Gold Mount is attached to the accessory that comes with the XL2...can't remember the name of it right now, but it goes just above the XLR inputs. Anyway, there's room on the sides as well to stick stuff.
