Does the XL H1 play FX1 tapes?

Hi guys,

I'm planning to sell my FX1 and buy a canon. I was wondering if the XL H1 would play material shot with the FX1 in HDV (normal and CF25). Because I'm in the middle of projects being shot with the FX1 and if I sell it I want to be sure I can play what I shot on a canon.

cheers

I have just changed from a Z1 to a H1 and the tapes play OK. I think there may have been an aleignment problem with some of the earlier models.

Regards

Mick

Awesome news! Are you happy with the exchange? On the paper the H1 seems to kill the Z1. It has sooo much more options over the image control, much more latitude, much more realistic "progressive" mode...and so on. But it would be great to hear it from somebody with extensive experience with both cameras.

i doubt that CF24 will play on a XL H1. but any normal 50i/60i stuff should be fine. can anyone confirm the CF24 not playing on an XL H1. i give it about 0% chance personaly

Judging by past posts on this same subject concerning earlier XL cameras playing tapes from other manufactures, it seems that some XL cameras are OK and some aren't.

I am at this moment editing footage taken with a Canon XL2 and a Sony Z1. The Sony FX1/Z1 tapes play perfectly via VCR playback inside the XL2, and downloads via the Firewire with no dropouts; so I would think the same would be true of the XL-H1 and FX1 or Z1.

My first observations changing from the Z1 to Hd1 is that Z1 straight out of the box gives you a good set up immeadiately with the HD1 you need to get to grips with your custom pre sets straight away to give you good looking footage. I changed cameras to enable me to use long lenes and to date I am not disapointed. Once I get get a few hours recording done I will be in a better postion to comment.
