Driver for VFW or WDM
I am looking for a WDM or VFW driver for the Canon XL1 Digital Camcorder to run the DV on Webcam32 for use as a web camera. The camcorder is compatible for Video for Windows, but my existing drivers are incomplete. Does anyone know where I can get one? The DV works fine for use as a movie maker in both Windows Movie Maker and IntroDV. If I try to run vidcap32.exe, the program finds the camera, but I get an error saying, "Unable to draw this data format."

Dean, the probable reason for the error message is Native DV is not a web video format. Web camera software uses MPEG1 or MotionJPEG, both highly lossy formats but small files suitable for web transfer. You might try a TV card for watching TV on your computer. Hook it up to the Composite RCA connectors on the back of your camera and go from there. I'm sorry to tell you this but if you bought the XL1 for use as a web camera someone pulled your chain. You'd have been better off getting a good quality web camera as all your quality will be lost in the compression. I hope you can use your XL1 for something else....maybe making movies.
