VL1s(PAL) and inputing SMTPE data
I have purchsed this as an addition to my ENG head for filmming and am wondering if anyone knows a way to capture time code data onto the XL1s from a external source such as a slate or other generator. With my ENG my ext gen is conencted to the slate, head and Audio Dat. Any ideas would be great
Thanks Ron |

Sorry, there is no way to input this information to an XL1 or XL1S while it's recording video through the camera head.

Thanks but?
I read somewhere, cannot remember which mag, that some people have saved the data to an audio track on some cameras, what I could not then understand is then how to retrieve it in the NLE to be of any use?
Thanks Chris for the quick reply Ron |

On analog recording formats, it's common to record SMPTE time code to an audio channel. Some analog VTR's such as Betacam SP decks can read time code recorded in such a manner, but I know of no NLE system within the price range of DV camcorders such as the XL1 which can read SMPTE time code this way.
Most often it's DV time code, which is a different animal than SMPTE time code. |
