Maybe you didn't have the comp/footage interpreted correctly in the bin?

Don't think so. I was pretty careful about that. For some reason when I had a 1440x1080 comp with 1440x1080 footage I get the results shown above. AE must do some hoodoo to the image when it's placed in a 1920x1080 comp.

But really it's just a display thing. When I output a frame to TIFF it looks fine. The ways of AE are mysterious and arcane to we mere mortals unfortunately.

PPro is just as bad. Today I had to convert some quicktime HD files to wmv, and using a desktop project, the preview monitor, including the render off the timeline to wmv had text with jagged edges, garbage, etc. (Rendered tiff was fine).

The same issue with a cineform 720p project, however the image via the Xena was tack sharp. I had to render a film scan rez of the file to avi, then use the stand alone windows media encoder to get it right.

Just one more reason to...
