prem pro 2 playback issues-HELP
Hi David and co
I have edited several scenes from Spoon with success but had not applied any filters or speed changes. Today i had my first problem on a new scene. I am having a problem playing back clips in prem 2 after applying colour correction filters and starting to edit with them. The problem is completely bizarre and after 8 hours of testing I still can't get to the bottom of it. In a desperate bid to understand whats happening I post some of my results I have mostly tested the everything in a 24fps project. However, I imported an existing 24fps project into a 23.976 project. I had no problems with rendering etc but had the same random "sticking". You start playing a timeline - it sticks on eg 3rd clip. It will now do this continously if you keep repeating it. You can remove all effects from all clips in the project. The error remains. if you copy and paste, or cut and paste the clip on its own anywhere else in the timeline, it will play through the offending clip no problem . If you move/cut/delete all the clips that follow the problem clip, it will play through the sequence and offending clip. I tried deleting and importing the clip - made no difference. The project is small - system is not struggling at all. It had nothing to do with the video card output - had the same problem when played out on computer monitor only. I deleted all clips following the offending clip - it played - i added a new clip to the end - when i did so, the timeline would play through and then beginning sticking on the new clip!!! I tried importing the project into a new project - it would stick on the same 3rd clip, however if I copied only selected files into a new sequence it would play fine. I did repeated tests to try and work out if there was a particular offending clip or series of clips with no clear result. At one point, i was able to copy about 20 clips from an edit, as long as I did not copy 3 particular disabled clips that occured after the 3rd (offending) clip however, some moments later while editing the new sequence without the offending clips, the probelm re-occurred. I had several prem crashes which i hadn't had before - below are the messages i got before crashes [\dev\stingray\MediaLayer\Src\AESupport\AEInData.cpp-696] was error i got trying to place new clip in a video track above the one sticking - i got the same error again when trying to move disabled clips away from clip thats sticking - prem just closed and i re-opened [\dev\stingray\Backend\Src\Sequence\LinkContainer.cpp-216] error received when multiple selecting clips to move [\dev\stingray\Backend\Src\FileCache\FileCache.cpp-879] was the last error i got - can't remember what i was trying at this point - after this last crash, prem would not close in the task manager although it appeared closed and i had to manually switch off my computer in order to re-start. MY THOUGHTS ON WHAT IT COULD BE Some kind of problem with certain source footage that we captured at this scene. (i have noticed the probelm in a previous scene but only on a particular clip) An issue relating to 23.9/24fps. I have tested mostly in 24fps workspace. When i important the project into 23.9 it doesn't reconfirm audio or loose renders and i have the same problems. Only when I select interpret footage as 23.9 in the bin do red render lines appear in the project forcing me to render any clip because our file headers say 24fps. If you have ANY VAGUE IDEA on what this sounds like, please let me know. I'll be keeping a detailed log as I cut the 200 or so hours of spoon on prem pro (god willing). ciao sharlto Copley |
Premiere Pro 1.5.1 Crashes with Export to M2T
I recently finished my first big movie (well, 18-minutes) with the JVC HD100, and now I'm trying to export the project to an M2T file so I can play back HD from the camera.
Every time I try to Export Movie -> CineForm M2T, Premiere Pro crashes with a "serious error". I made sure the export settings matched the project (1280x720 24p), so what else can I be doing wrong? |
Sounds like a support issue (please file a ticket.) Sorry I don't know what might be causing it. For a work-around export to a 1280x720 CineForm AVI. Then use that AVI to create your MPEG2-TS file.

Can the CineForm AVI be converted to MPEG2-TS outside of Premiere Pro? (i.e. through HDLink or another app?) I'll also file a ticket on the CineForm site. |

Did you try rebooting your PC?
As simple as it sounds, I regularly experience PPro render issues that usually go away after reboot - so maybe it'll help you too. |
Thanks everyone for responding so far. I'll try the reboot issue first to see if that helps. I also put in a support ticket with CineForm and will try their suggested procedure next if necessary.
Just some follow-up info regarding the problem -- I tried exporting some footage to a 720p 29.97 fps M2T file (rather than 23.976) and that worked (though, every fourth frame is repeated for the changed frame rate). So it's only the "24 fps" export that is crashing. |
Hi again. Well, per the suggestion from CineForm support, I've reinstalled Premiere Pro and Aspect HD. Tried my export again, and it still crashed.
I also tried the other M2T export settings. It appears both of the options labelled "(JVC ProHD)" -- 23.976 fps and 25.00 fps -- cause Premiere Pro to crash. The other options work fine. |
progress on problem
okay, it seems to be caused by a problem on two clips in my project that have some kind of corruption or possibly something that happened during shooting on the sdi camera.
|
Glad to here it.
Note: To all users, please contact us first, both asking direct question that seem to be bugs. That is what support is there for. I'm not in support, so I like come here and help with workflow question, and get new feature ideas. This is not a portal to CineForm, rather it is a link to other CineForm users. |
now pp2 will not open with a aspect hd preset selected...
Just upgraded my ati x1900xtx to a pny quadro fx 3500. Everything works fine on every single program now except pp2 using a aspect hd preset. Been working on a video for a while now and it will no longer open without freezing up pp2. it was done in the aspect hd 1440x1080 preset. so messing around i tried opening other projects that were done using the aspect preset as well as trying to create a new project with this preset. locks up pp2 everytime. here's the kicker I can open and edit old projects that were done in the regular pp2 hdv preset. I can also start a new project with the regular pp2 presets. all footage in this pc has all been captured using hdlink and is cineform avi's. tried reinstalling pp2 & aspect and no luck at all. I also started a trouble ticket on cineform site but people on here kinda say that takes a long time to hear back. so does anyone know why my aspect hd and my very expensive new quadro fx dont get along?
I mean everything works fine on the pc but aspect presets in pp2 and the quadro. maybe I need to adjust something in the driver or maybe something in aspect but I cant lose this one particular project. been working on it for almost 2 weeks straight and very near completion. Praying for good news, Mark |
It never a good idea to change hardware in the middle of a project. Uninstall Aspect HD, get the latest NVidia drivers from their site. Once the Nvidia drivers are refreshed, re-install Aspect HD and try again.
|
well actually it is screwing up with pp2 as well, just in different spots. seems to be the nvidia driver (latest whql) and some settings in it. so pny tech support told me go to the old 77's b/c they are the latest certified by adobe. but, these drivers do not support the quadro fx 3500. so i tried the 84's to no avail either. so who has the 3500 such as I do and what settings are you using on your drivers to make them work with aspect hd and pp2?
Since this is not just tied to aspect I'm gonna make a post in the premiere thread and see if someone else has some ideas. |
PPRo2 hangs with Prospect HD 2.2
Okay, since I am probably doing something dumb, will start here.
Been a year since I did my editing, so, brain may be dumb. So, loaded up the 2.2 prospect HD into my windows XP SP2 new dual clovertown 2.66/1333 parts. (going to throw 8 processor at my project this christmas.) So, I start a new project. (I have going to want to import my HDV from my Sony HC1) So, I look at the presets and choose 1920x1080 60i, assuming this is the correct one for 10 bit mode. When I run PPro2, it just locks up. If I run HDlink, it sees the HC1 just fine and I can control it. If I do a project with PPro2 HDV presets, I can control the camera fine. So, do I have the wrong preset? Dave |
You will need to talk with support. We are seeing some startup issue on some PCs, yet none anywhere near Southern California (so we have never seen it.) The latest Prospect HD uses a lot of .Net and new threading tools, so do make sure your OS has the all the updates.
|
Okay, will do. I have all the updates that I am aware of. Even .net 3.0

Hi, Did you ever sort this problem as I have the same issue when trying to export to procoder from the pp2 timeline. Thanks. |
Premiere pro2 clueless
Hi everyone
I kinda asked this q before without any definite response, still need help no clues yet. I captured a large chunk of film into a single DV avi. I cut that up and put together a short sequence on the time line. Can I use the time line sequence to create an offline file so that I can recapture in HDV as a number of small avi's. |
Chris:
Your question may be confusing or lost in translation, but what I think you are asking is can you capture HDV from you camera as down converted DV, edit it down to portions of clips you want to use, then have the editing system actually do the conversion to HDV. That sounds like a "proxy file" editing question. Gear Shift does it for Vegas. I Googled using the following and came up with some .pdf files that may help. Use this Google search, or try you own: "Proxy Editing Premiere Pro 2.0" |
Premiere Pro for the MAC and what that means for Cineform
Hi David and David (Newman and Taylor),
It's exciting news to hear that Adobe is bringing Premiere back to the MAC. Just wanted to see how this affects Cineforms' MAC efforts. Would MAC Premiere Users still have to convert their files on a PC system using Video for Windows technology to transcode before porting their footage to a MAC Premiere system, or will we soon see Cineform HDLink software to transcode on the MAC too? I know that each of you and your team are always hard at work on expanding your capabilities - Just wanted to see if the Adobe announcement offers you more latitude outside of the open architecture of their software. Keep up the great work! -Geoff Murillo |
Hi Geoff;
I know the question was not directed to me, but that news has made my day. Also can you post the link for the news? Thanks Mike Q. |
Hi Mike,
Here are two links. http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/01...iere/index.php http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/01...ysis/index.php -Geoff |
Yes this is good news for CineForm, although we will be on the Mac well before the availability of Premiere Pro. We see a lot of opportunity.
|
David,
Do you have more news on CineForm for Mac, or a link to info? I'm really curious about this. Thanks, Heath |
We haven't formally published any news about our MacOS port, although we often use this forum as an unofficial update platform. We realize many are interested in this, so I'll take this opportunity to give you an update.
First of all we acknowledge that our port to MacOS has taken longer than we originally anticipated. Vagaries of OS's, wrappers, and magic potions for FCP/QT (without any documentation) have played havoc with our schedule. The good news is that we really are making progress, albeit slower than originally hoped. We are actually playing 10-bit CineForm MOV files in FCP - this is the first time we've acknowledged this. There are still issues that remain that we are working on, so "no" we're not yet ready for a release. But please realize that our port to MacOS is a very high priority of ours. For those of you following our product releases, we are already shipping CineForm QT compatibility in Windows. That means you can render a CineForm AVI to a CineForm QT on Windows (in Prospect HD) and use the extended (10-bit) precision of CineForm MOV files in other apps like Combustion. QT Windows was Step 1 in moving to QT MacOS. On a longer term basis we will allow you to capture directly into a CineForm MOV files (rather than AVI). The CineForm MOV files will be directly compatible with both Windows and MacOS. So you'll be able to move files back and forth between platforms with no conversions requires. For those interested in experimenting with CineForm QT on Windows, download our Trial version of Prospect HD - you'll see CineForm MOV as an export option. BTW, you can use the CineForm AVI and CineForm QT files side-by-side on the PremPro timeline interchangably - both have the same RT performance. We haven't yet included MOV support in Aspect HD or Connect HD. We're excited about finally releasing CineForm MacOS QT because it'll make CineForm Intermediate (and CineForm RAW) truly OS, platform, and application-independent. |
David T.,
Thanks so much for the update! This is exciting news to hear. Heath |
Premiere and Parhelia wont preview
Hi,
I've just installed my Parhelia (what a nightmare) in my current set up. When I preview with Aspect HD, it outputs to my TV just fine, although it will not scrub. (yes, I have checked the overlay box in the Aspect playback options). However when I play a DV project (no Aspect) it will not play on my TV? I've tried various Playback settings in the Project setting but nothing works. I've also installed the Matrox Premiere Plug-In. I'm currently running a Radeon card powering my primary DVI display, and I have a VGA monitor and my TV connected to the Parhelia. Any thoughts? Thanks, Alex |
The Parhelia may not like sharing with the Radeon card. The Parhelia setups most customers use is the Parhelia alone.
|
I don't think that's the problem. If I play a file with Windows media player outside Premiere, it works fine. Also, I've seen a couple of posts describing people using two cards.
|
I don't have a Parhelia, so I'm just guessing, but I agree with David that with 2 video cards (and thus effectively 4 or 5 video outputs, depending on if the Radeon is dual-head) either the WYSIWYG plugin, or Premiere itself, is getting confused about what the primary monitor is and/or else what the firewire output source is.
Maybe the plugin assumes/requires that the Parhelia be the primary monitor? And, Premiere may be looking for a hardware firewire port to output DV to (since that's what it would do if you just had the Radeon installed). Edit: Oh and, while using 2 generic cards is common, I dont think using an extra card with the 3-output Parhelia/plugin combo will have been tried by many people. |
I'm trying to use just the parhelia now, but it will only see my DVI monitor and not my VGA monitor. I've tried removing all the drivers, hidden drivers, moved the card to a different PCIe slot, all to no avail.
Oh the frustration. THanks to all for your input. |
Go to the Matrox PowerDesk control panel. Click Video Playback Settings, then make sure to check the Use video overlay *and* Use PureVideo/DVDMax box.
|
So I finally got something to work again with just the Parhelia, but it still will not preview DV footage in Premiere, but Aspect is fine. It will preview DV footage out the Firewire cable however.
The only way I can get it to work is to stretch the display, but since the monitors are different (DVI and VGA) the resolution that I have to use is not ideal. I think I have to go back to the Radeon for my DVI monitor, and Parhelia for the VGA and TV. But I still wont be able to Preview DV footage on Premiere with the Parhelia. What a pain. I guess I have to go buy another DVI monitor. Sheesh!!!! |
