First Light Odd Behavior with Tools Burn In

I have a 2 camera shoot I'm working on in First Light and I'm running into something odd with the Tools Burn In that I can't figure out. The RGB Waveform (or any tool I have active) disappears from the screen at a particular point in two clips and doesn't come back even though the burn in controls say that tool is still active. Removing and adding the tools again doesn't help. It is at 100% opacity, even clicking reset layout doesn't help.

I'm experiencing this on two of the four clips in my project, they are almost 3 hours in length. The Tools disappear at a keyframe a little more than an hour into each clip. Other overlays like timecode are not affected by this only the tools disappear. The two clips in my project that are not effected by this problem do not have any keyframes on them. Removing keyframes around the area where the tolls display disappears doesn't fix the problem either. Any ideas? I really would love to get the rest of this show color corrected but it's difficult without the waveform and vectorscope.

Add the overlay Unique, and see whether the waveform disappears at frame 100000 (or 1 hr 9 mins for 24fps sources.) If might a limitation that we need to fix.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by the overlay Unique.

Sorry that is the internal name. I meant frame number.

On one clip it disappears at frame 133472 and the other at frame 108745. What is common in both circumstances is that the burn in disappears the next frame after a Primary Correction keyframe (the last place it is visible is happens to be on a keyframe). Both clips are 1080 60i shot with two different Sony Cameras.

Ok after a little more playing around this problem seems to be tied to the number of keyframes I have used in each clip not the frame number it is at. I have no way of actually knowing how many keyframes are on each clip but I can confirm this behavior:

If I have keyframes at say frames #s 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and the last appearance of the waveform was at frame 20 and I step ahead one frame to frame 21 the waveform disappears. If I then delete the keyframe at frame 20, the waveform will now be visible all the way to frame 30 and gone at frame 31. If I delete both the keyframes at frames 10 & 20, the waveform is now visible all the way to frame 40 and gone at frame 41. If I go back and add a keyframe at frame 10 again the waveform will disappear at frame 31 again. The tools burn in seems to have a limit on the number of keyframes it can be visible for across your clip whereas the overlay burn in does not.

I hope this helps and can be confirmed by someone else.

Bill,

Thanks, that was an excellent investigation. Now fixed a bug related to a large number of control points per clip > 60-ish.

Any idea how long a fix like this will take to get released?

Next beta, so probably this week.
