Cineform Digital Audio Distortion (formerly Embarassing Audio Question)

My Cineform seems to be adding some slight digital distortion to my audio clips.

Here are two identical clips of room ambience.

One is captured using the regular Cineform Codec
The other is captured using Adobe's HDV capture

Strangely enough, When I capture in Adobe's HDV setting, it still says it's converting to the Cineform Intermediary at the end of the clip.

I normalized to 50%, so you could easily hear the difference.

Hmm.. As CineForm or Adobe HDV (also CineForm capture) does NOT compress the audio, I don't see how this can be. Audio is decompressed from the MPEG source and stored as uncompressed 16-bit 48kHz PCM.

I don't understand either.
But could you hear it in the clips?

Consistent results on different footage with a different mic and setting.

Maybe it is question for support as I have not heard of this before. The audio difference could be small implementation between the MPEG audio decoders uses to convert to uncompressed. That maybe worthlooking at.

I sent a ticket, but I thought I'd see if anyone here had run into it.

The same was here

Hi :)

I had exactly the same thing with the cineform demo version.

Most of the time I record audio more safe on the second channel and it was absolutely useless because of that compression artifacts. Gladly, its not on the tape, what I first expected.

One of some reasons why the demo didn't convince me over the free adobe HDV (which I know is from cineform).

If there is an issue we will fix it. Make sure you report the camera and mode used in your trouble ticket, as it may be isolated.
