Rec from CF card to tape in camera
 

Just wondered.. in case I ever have to do it.. is it.. press play on NF.. press record on camera.. BNC from play out NF to HD SDI ...???

I suppose that depends whether you have an HD-SDI 'Pool Feed' option in your camera? Or you could always just go to a deck with an HD-SDI input...

as the Canon XL H1S, Panasonic HPX370 and the like, the SDI jack
is output only.

Sure.
No reason for professional cameras to have HD/SD-SDI IN.

Re: the "pool feed" option, you can bring HD into the viewfinder with
the Panasonic AG-YA500G interface box, but there's no way to get
it to the camera's VTR section for recording, sorry.

Seems like you're just talking about a 'viewfinder return' option.
I was thinking of 'pool feed option' the way Sony does it - where an add-on board gives the camera the capability to record an SDI input, typically useful for news crews where there is limited access to a location (such as a courtroom) or when crews are kept in another room - such as a press room - during an event (such as a concert) where they are allowed to take a line feed of parts of the event. Having the pool feed option in the camera eliminates the need to bring along a separate recorder, and is particularly convenient when this aspect of the shoot comes up as a surprise.
In the case of a standard pool feed option on a Sony 700 or 800, I see no reason why it wouldn't record the signal properly as played back from the NanoFlash.

What about tape to CF.. this should be straight forward..? put tape in camera.. press play.. SDI out to Nano

Playing a tape, then recording in the nanoFlash is very easy.

You can press play and then record on the nanoFlash, or vice versa.

Or you can set the nanoFlash to record on Incrementing Timecode,
System|Trigger|Timecode (TC)

But, since the HDX900 starts with some bogus timecode values, be certain to set the timecode delay to 1 second.

System|Timecode|Trigger Delay|1

Ok thanks.. would last record Last TC also work? TC delay must be in the new firmware then.. dont think I have that.What would the purpose of TC delay be.. in ordinary recording mode.. ie running tape.. and nanoflash for live recording.. not play back or anything..

System|Trigger|Timecode > Last TC is designed to prevent recording on the nanoFlash if one is reviewing clips on the camera.

Thus the nanoFlash is remembering the highest timecode that it has received since it has been powered on.

When a lower timecode is received, such as when backups the tape then starts to play again, the nanoFlash will not record.



Timecode Delay is to overcome the problem when cameras, such as the HDX900 put out bogus timecodes prior to actually going into record. For the HDX900 use a setting of 1.

This menu setting (feature) is available on 1.6.248.

Ok thanks.. I havn,t had any problems with un wanted recording from the HDX900 TC.. I always set to trigger last TC.. no un wanted files ?

Try this one on for size folks. Set your Nano or XDR to Record Trigger TC (TC must be set to *Embedded* in cameras which output the audio & video along with the TC via HD-SDI.) Press Play on your in camera tape deck and as soon as your Nano or XDR receives the embedded TC in the HD-SDI input, then it will immediately fire into Record ! Presto ! Unattended transfers to CF cards are now possible ! Don't have a camera which embeds the TC and audio signal in the HD-SDI output stream ? (Like Canon XL H1 Original Version) Set Nano or XDR to Record Trigger TC LTC, and use an RCA to XLR (MALE) Stereo output cable from the side of the XL H1's input/outputs and it still gets the job done with the XDR. With the Nano Flash it's even simpler - Use a 1/8 inch Stereo to RCA cable and you're done.
