Playback to HDMI monitor?
 

I recently got a nanoFlash and a IndiPro 5" HDMI monitor, to use with my Panasonic AF100.

To use the monitor while recording at 24fps, I have to set the E-to-E to On. No problem. But when I want to playback the recording I just made, the monitor says Unsupported.

Now, If I record without any 3:2 pulldown removal anywhere, then yes I can view playback on the monitor; but then when I load the video into Vegas Pro 10, I see 30 frames per second. As far as I know, Vegas has no way to do 3:2 pulldown removal.

So I seem to be stuck without any way to review a 24fps video in the field. Am I missing some obvious solution?

Many HDMI monitors cannot handle a 1080p24 signal or 1080psf24.

HD-SDI monitors can handle a 1080p24 and 1080psf24 signal, but I realize that this is not much help to you right now.

I assume that you have your AF100 set to output 1080p24 or 1080psf24.

Or do you have it set to output 1080p24 with 3:2 Pulldown? This is sometimes called 1080p24 over 60.

I think that what you're seeking is a playback telecine of 24p to 60i to a HDMI monitor. This is currently not possible in the current Nanoflash firmware, however, you can preview the clips on a computer in progressive.

For recording, PsF is a better recording mode for recording progressive images. Pulldown detection relies on whether it can detect a cadence for inversing telecine. If it can't, the Nanoflash will refuse to accept signals and will not record.

Thanks for the responses. It looks like I made the wrong choice of monitor for my specific needs. I'm now looking at the specs and prices for other monitors. The HD-SDI monitors are a bit pricey for me. But Marshall makes an HDMI monitor, the V-LCD51 5" On-Camera Monitor, which they claim can handle "1080p (30 / 29.97/ 25 / 24 / 24sF/ 23.98 / 23.98sF)". Does this sound like it would handle playback from the nanoFlash of recordings done with "Record PSF->Progressive" and "Remove 3:2 Pulldown"?

Hello Ken,
you may consider the Swit 's 5" LCD monitor with both HDMI and 3G SDI inputs as well.

Thanks everyone for your input. I decided to go with the Marshall V-LCD51 5" monitor. It arrived Thursday, and it works great! It's an HDMI monitor that can handle video from which 3:2 pulldown has been removed... no problems.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it does peaking with a B+W display and red peaking highlights, as well as pixel-to-pixel magnification, and can do both at the same time. It also has Marshall's false colors filter for exposure judging.
