24p on nano to U1 XDCAM Settings??

Greetings from LA.

for an upcoming shoot, the client wants 24p on xdcam disc.
PMW-F3 to nano is fine, but not having luck burning to XDCAM disc via U1

i'm using 1280/720 23.98p in the F3 (non drop on both F3 and nano - it's actually grey-d out on the F3 to NDF, so i set the nano to NDF)
on the nano Record PSF/Prog is DEactivated
Remove 3:2 pulldown is ACTIVATED

i see 720pd23 - 50M across the bottom of nano

BUT - when i attempt to burn via the U1, i get:

"The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in FP446001.mxf can't be read or written
Error code -36"

thoughts?

I have successful playback of the nano card by using Content Browser and it shows as 720/23.98 but it just won't transfer….

thanks,
brian

Re: 24p on nano to U1 XDCAM Settings??

OSX error -36 is an i/o error, usually means a problem reading the media.

There is no such thing as drop frame time code at the 23.98 rate. Nothing to do with the nano, just with how 23.98 time code works.

If the stream from the PMW-F3 is really pure 23.98, and not 23.98 embedded (with pull down flags) in 29.97, then you don't need to set the nano to remove pulldown (as there is none). I have no idea what the PMW-F3 puts out.

Just some random thoughts about your question; sorry I don't have a "real" answer.

Do you have FCP7 - I'd use that to bump it to XDCam optical.
one other thing to check before that is the U1 has the most up to date firmware..

Thanks John -
That's certainly one way to do it, but not a great way when in the field.
Still can't figure out why it won't burn direct via U1.
Firmwares are up to date and haven't found anyone else that can make this happen with the same setup.

One other thing - the Nano records true 23.98P not 23.98P embedded in a 60i stream so maybe the U1 can only make up XDCAM volumes in that format because that was a limitation of the XDCAM range of cameras - just theorising...

I know other things like audio format are also critical for the U1
