Converting to 16 bit tiff

I originally posted this on the Mac editing page but now realize I may get more assistance here (thanks William for the assistance you offered me over there)

I'm sending some clips to a VFX house.

The VFX people have asked for 16 bit tiffs. I'm uncertain how to make this conversion. I'm using FCP 5.1.4 Going into sequence settings allows you to convert to a tiff but no bit number is specified. From what I gather, this is an 8 bit tiff. Am I correct? Am I better off to go through Media Manager?

The original material was shot on DVCam. Is it possible to create a 16 bit tiff in FCP. If not, what program should I use? In addition to FCS1, I also recently purchased Adobe Production Suite CS3 so a learning curve with that one.

Thanks for any help
