How to get this "cut out effect" ? at DVinfo.net

Hi there,

I've recently returned from Japan and will be making a dvd for the people I went with (drifters lol) Anywho there is this effect I really have my heart set on using for the intros of people.

Basically Ill just be playing there intro then once theyve finished i want to do this "cut out effect" and basically cut them out and then zoom in/rotate them around whilst the background stays the same.

I was thinking you could cut them out in Photoshop and then add them in and do it that way but that would mean I would have to purchase the program. I was wondering if it is possible to do in After Effects/Premiere/Vegas?

If you could post a tutorial that would be awesome as well.

I suppose this video 00:06 - 00:12 is kinda what im talking about. Minus all the crazy effects lol

The easiest way would be to do it in Photoshop, but you could probably do it in After Effects. You would just need to spend a lot of time drawing a mask around your subject, then duplicate and invert the mask to keep the background.

As long as it's a still image or frame grab it's pretty easy. In Vegas, duplicate the track then on the top layer create a mask around the person. Then use the Pan/crop tool to do the zoom. Be aware that unless you do the zoom/rotate thing very carefully, you might see the person duplicated on the track below.

Alternatively, instead of using masks, you could simply paint over the background with a color like lime green in Photoshop and use Vegas's chroma tool.

Zooming though, that I can't help with.

Hey guys,

Im having trouble getting the 3D camera to move, I have no idea haha. Ive tried tirelessly
on youtube but nothing quite explains it.

Hi Sam. the keyboard shortcut for toggling through the camera tools is to press the letter C. You might find it a lot easier though to create a null and parent the camera to it - it's a lot easier to see and move a null than it is to see and move the camera. Hope that helps.
