There seems to be some misinformation going around. The FS700 can output 12bits over 3G-SDI which is unheard of for a camera under $60k. Its essentially like the Alexa in that it outputs 12bit Raw for special recorders (although none exist yet for the FS700 except for maybe the Codex recorder but that makes the SR recorder look cheap).

Hey Dan, 2 questions for you:

1) can the Sony XDCAM codec support anything above 1920x1080? I am hinting at whether the nanoFlash could ever be upgraded to support the 4k stream.

2) does the Gemini fully support the 12bits in Arriraw? I assume it does but you don't have any info stating that the Gemini would work great with other 12bit capable cameras like the Sony SRW9000.

PS - I must add my 2 cents about the nanoFlash. When Dan states that the XDCAM codec is low noise, he is saying this because many codecs *ADD* noise when encoding, and Pro Res happens to be one of the worst at adding noise.

Here are my answers, to the best of my ability.

No, the XDCam Codec cannot support resolutions higher than 1920 x 1080. This does not mean that Sony would not be able to change it in the future, but for now the answer is no. For example, 2k is not supported by the current XDCam Codec.

HD-SDI, in normal modes, not special similar modes such as ARRI T-Link, can not support bit-depths greater than 10-Bits.

In ARRIRAW Mode, using their T-Link, the same cables and electronics can support 12-Bits.

Supporting a 4K stream with the nanoFlash is not practical, it is just too much data.

Yes, the Gemini 4:4:4, with our ARRIRAW Option fully supports 12-Bit data.

I may be missing something, but I did not know that the Sony SRW9000 had the ability to output 12 bit over HD-SDI.

But, it can support 12 bit encoded in Sony S-Log into a 10-bit word, and then output over HD-SDI.

To make this clear, our Gemini 4:4:4 will work fine with the Sony SRW9000 in S-Log mode or when it is in regular mode.

I guess 240 fps is impossible over SDI and if it is possible, it will melt the cables to the NanoFlash? ;-)

Yes, full resolution 240 fps is not possible over single-link HD-SDI.

All of our European dealers were notified of the nanoFlash price reduction.

If you favorite dealer has not changed their prices, please just bring it to their attention.
The dealers may contact our European distributor, Symbiosis, to get the updated price list.

"Symbiosis", for some strange reason C.D.'s European distributor, are still advertising nanoFlashes at the old price.

On the other hand, "Creative Video", a UK retailer have them at the new reduced price,

I do not know why Symbiosis has not updated their website.

It is after normal hours, and it is time for Easter Holidays, and they are getting ready for NAB.
