Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
4K support likely means external recorder needed, although BM could certainly offer a reasonably priced 4K recorder.

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
True.
Just preordered the BMC 4K with EF mount. Thought I better get in early for this one (you cant get much earlier than before the official launch I guess)! |
Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
Simon, where did you pre-order from?

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
CVP in the UK. They usually get stock before everyone else. The deposit is refundable in case it drags on too long - but at least this way I'm in somewhere near the front of the line.

mm.. Ultra portable Super 16 digital cinema with wide 13 stops dynamic range for 1K, no more "wish I had my camera with me" moments. Can't wait to see what image it outputs and how it performs in low light.

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
If the pocket cam does have an active M4/3 mount this camera is going to be very attractive to GH2 users who have been on the fence about upgrading to the GH3. Even those who already have a GH3 may want to get this camera. For the price of a GH body it almost seems like a no brainier even if it does have limitations like very hard to get super wide angle and so forth. Honestly I could see using both in productions. Sometimes I shoot stuff I don't even want to hack and want just a regular bitrate. You will not be able to do that with the BM so for me having both could be practical.

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
Lets not also forget the only camera on the planet for $995.00 that records 4:2:2 in camera. Who knows it may even do 4:4:4. Blackmagic typically doesn't care about restricting this sort of thing like other companies do. If it does do ProRes444 consider it sold. Even considering it may be a native bayer 1080p sensor and nowhere near raw detail of true 4:4:4 it does help. I have keyed a lot of RED 4k 4:4:4 to know you don't gain much but even a little bit helps.

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
If it supports 1080/60p, it's a winner in my books. S35 Global Shutter for only $4000 is amazing.

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
$995 for 13 stops, 1080p, raw and Prores? SOLD! It'll look great on top of my modded Steadicam Smoothie.
Get the upcoming M43/EF speedbooster to go wider and shallower DOF, adaptability with Leica and Zeiss glass - can't wait for image samples. The DNG's from the current BMCC are awesome despite its shortcomings - batteries, drives, that dreadful LCD - which for me is a deal breaker. The Pocket Cinema Camera's price tag makes it much easier to live with any issues. Hopefully Black Magic has solved the production and delivery issues because the demand for these cameras is going to be high. Canon/Sony/Panasonic/Red just got sucker punched for the second year in a row. Pending image samples - this is the end of my Nex ownership. |
Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera
Both cameras shipping in July according to Grant Petty.
