Magic lantern cracks 7D Raw buffers.

Alex of magic latern announced that he found the raw buffers on the 7D and he got silent pics to work.

To recall, the path of development on the 5Ds was like this, first it was silent raw pics that record in bursts which eventually became continuous recording of raw onto the CF.
Hopefully the 7D follows that path.
Looks like its looking up for this dual digic beast.

That's great!! I'm still looking at mine lovingly, every time I think I'm going to sell it..... I take it out and use it again and it reminds me of why I like it so much.

Re: Magic lantern cracks 7D Raw buffers.

Also, I already have magic lantern on my 7D, albeit a watered down version, up and running and capable of AUTOBOOTING.

Its mostly the old flavor but one big reason I went through hoops to get it running is the auto re-start recording which automatically restarts recording when it reaches the 4gig limit when recording h264.

I usually use the 7D as B cam to my 5D when doing interviews so the auto re-start is important.

Its not like spanned files where the cuts are seamless, theres like perhaps a 17-18 frames cut but its good enough, its less than a second.

Very excited, Ted, though I'm really hoping that we get ML on the 70D when it comes out. The combo of live AF in video mode with auto-restart would be fantastic.

Re: Magic lantern cracks 7D Raw buffers.

And lets hope the data transfer rate of the SD data bus is fast because the reason why a lot lower models od canon can't do a decent raw video resolution is due to the memory card slot being SD with a slow data bus.

The card speed is not the issue, its the data bus.

Re: Magic lantern cracks 7D Raw buffers.

I knew there was a reason I brought my 7D home from the office this weekend...

Re: Magic lantern cracks 7D Raw buffers.

UPDATE!!

7D now near being fully functional raw recording.

Just tested a module compiled by an ML programmer named BRUNONIKO.

at 24P using 1000x cf card.

in 24P

1728 x 972 16:9 = Continuous

in Crop mode which is 30P since there is still no FPS over ride.

2152 x 1200 2.09:1 = 97

1920 x 1080 16:9 = 201

1728 x 736 2.35:1 =Continuous

1600 x 800 2:1 = Continuous

in 60P

1728 x 412 3:1 = 449

1600 x 382 3:1 = 2,610

1472 x 350 3:1 = Continuous

1280 X 416 2.20:1 = Continuous

Now full color realtime preview in liveview
(previously it freezes and has to be in grayscale)

Re: Magic lantern cracks 7D Raw buffers.

So close to being able to do 1080/24p continuously! Since you mentioned 1080/30p being limited to 201 frames, I hope that the lower framerate of 24p will at least allow some longer record times times.

I would be perfectly content with 1920x816@24p or even 30p continuous... I will have to check up on the new module tonight.

Re: Magic lantern cracks 7D Raw buffers.

the 1080 and higher res is only possible in crop mode. Highest possible is 1728 in normal mode at 24P.
