I'm excited to introduce a brand new series of workshops at AbelCine. The Digital Cinema series of classes focus on the cameras, sensors optics, and digital formats used in production today. This series is designed to get anyone familiar with the latest tools and techniques used for modern digital cinema. Topics include cinema sensors, cinema camera advanced options, raw & log, codecs and compression, and optical solutions. These classes are appropriate for anyone working with digital cinema cameras and formats today, including those new to cinema cameras.

The series is broken down into several parts and build on each other to more advanced options and can be purchased as a combo pack:

DC101: Camera 101 – Camera Sensors

This 3 hour class focuses on all the aspects of a camera sensor that will ultimately affect your image. Topics include sensor types and patterns, ISO & Exposure Index, Resolutions, Aspect Ratios, White balance, and many more.

DC201: Camera 201 – Camera INs & OUTs

Part of the Digital Cinema series, Digital Camera 201 is all about camera inputs and outputs. This 3 hour class focuses on the different types of digital and analog video outputs, timecode, genlock, remote control, and audio inputs. Topics also include the use of external recorders, SDI specifics, multi-camera production, and external audio syncing. Different camera systems will be demonstrated throughout the class.

DC301: Camera 301 – Camera Color & Gamma

Part of the Digital Cinema series, Digital Camera 301 is all about camera gamma and color. This 3 hour class focuses on camera gamma modes, contrast adjustments, color modes, matrix adjustments, and more. Different camera systems will be demonstrated throughout the class.

DC401: Camera 401 – Raw, Log & Uncompressed


Part of the Digital Cinema series, Digital Camera 401 is all about cameras that shoot in Raw and Log modes. From the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera all the way up to the Red Epic and Sony F55, this class focuses on working with and exposing for Raw & Log.

HD101: HD Formats 101: Media, Compression, and Formats

Part of the Digital Cinema series, HD Formats 101 is a three-hour course focusing on the many different HD video formats. The course is designed to give shooters, producers, and editors a better understanding of the video formats available today and how they compare with each other. Topics include broadcast standards, compression, color space and recording media. Formats covered include Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2, Arri ALEXA, RED RAW, Canon HDSLR, Canon XF, AVCHD and HDV.
