You can already burn HD content to DVD-R and playback on a $300 HD DVD player which is far cheaper than paying for a Blu-ray recorder unless you already have one.

The support will come but the DRM must be put into the OS first and that likely means Leopard. Apple supports both standards but they had HD DVD basic support running first. I'll eventually own both formats (Samsung is going to deliver a Universal HD DVD/Blu-ray player) but right now I like that HD DVD is just over $300 at Amazon.

I agree on the HD DVD - it does work great with FCP. However, once you start putting content onto a 25GB disc, you get spoiled fast... :-)

you're probably right about DRM in Leopard as the blocking factor - too bad they don't do a minor update to DVDSP now and just offer the support that they have for HD DVD (which is minimal, but works), then offer a full blown upgrade this fall.

Good point, didn't know about the $300 HD DVD player. I have a PS3 and wanted to use it for blu-ray playback. But if HD DVD player is only another $300 then it is the way I will go - Thanks!
