Final Cut Studio 2 released at NAB

Lots of major internal changes to the primary apps, FCP, Motion, Compressor.

You can check the details at the Engadget web site.

Looks pretty solid, they have addressed the majority of the issues keeping me with Vegas.

It may be that time..........for the switch!

Boyd Ostroff April 15th, 2007 02:17 PM

The page is now up on Apple's website: http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/whatsnew.html

And I won't have to pay much of a penalty for not crossgrading to the universal version last month.... I can upgrade from FCP 5.0 to FCS 2 for $700. If you have FCS already then the upgrade is $500.

Chris Harris April 15th, 2007 04:37 PM

All I have to say is WOW! I'm super excited for this new release! I'm particularly excited about the FCP open format timeline and Motion's 3D compositing!

Christopher Witz April 15th, 2007 05:08 PM

man.... that "paint" function is so cool!

also.... love the "red" reel on the apple site.... cool black camo netting set!

FCS 2 sounds great, but it's disappointing that there is no update to DVD Studio Pro included at this time...

unfortunately, the current version is 4.1.2... :-(

i did see a reference to version 4.2, but Apple does not call out DVDSP as being "substantionally upgraded" like the other components of FCS

Man, I was there to see the presentation and I've gotta say, there's practically no competition, Final Cut Studio 2 is going to change the way a lot of people edit. Also, thanks to Color, there's going to be a lot of really good color corrected stuff from now on.

During the FCP Intro Video on the Apple Website, they mention outputting to Compressor and Authoring to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. So maybe there are no new features, but you will be able to use external burners.

I was at the event, and they basically said DVD Studio Pro was not upgraded. I thought, darn! I was hoping for HD DVD and Blu-Ray support (FULL support). I'm guessing next year? Or something this year if a Blu-Ray burner is dropped in.

Ahhh, my bad. Thanks Brent. I was quickly glancing over the release info at Apple's website. But when you read it, they make it sound like some new stuff has been added to DVDSP.

Hope so! at least fix some bugs they have and maybe add at least basic Blu-Ray creation support, but I'm not holding my breath... :-)

Outstanding update. I suspect the DVD SP update will have to come when Apple supports HDCP in the OS and on the Cinema Displays. I'm sure Apple could offer authoring support without this but I think they're reluctant to offer a recorder that cannot playback pre-recorded discs because of no HDCP.

Wow pretty damn impressive if I must say so myself. I didn't think they'd get 4k support but I guess there's more than one way to skin a cat and they worked on getting the bitrate down and the processing power up and in the middle they found a workable solution.

Soundtrack Pro rocks. What an update..the Logic Pro fans are going to be green with envy until they get their update.

Color!!! Final Touch integrated. Only the lack of an updated DVD SP prevents Apple from getting an A. Solid B+ here. If all this stuff works like it should it's going to be huge.

Ty Smith April 16th, 2007 07:56 AM

Big disappointment with the lack of upgrade to DVDSP. I would love to output my HD footage onto blu ray for playback. Is there any word out there on when Apple will deliver this functionality? I mean I don't understand, Apple mentions that they are in the blu ray camp yet the lack of functionality for the standard in there hardware and applications is sobering.
