DVD-R in PowerDVD requests screen res change

I've been successfully burning DVD-R for two years and have always had one nuisance issue with them in my PC. When asked to play them, PowerDVD claims the screen res must be changed (lowered) and plays only audio if I decline. Commercial DVDs just play. Most of mine have been authored and burned with one of two versions of Sonic's MyDVD, currently 5.2. No problem with my disks in my two set-top units or those I've passed them to - just PowerDVD. Any input welcome.

This probably isn't going to be of much use to you, but here goes.
It's been a pretty long time since I used PowerDVD. The reasons
I switched to WinDVD a long time ago was because I was having
weird problems with PowerDVD (forgot what exactly). I've never
looked back.

Are you perhaps running a quite old version of PowerDVD? It just
might be a bug somehow.

Thank you, Rob. You're probably right on. I just tried to patch my version, which claims to be 2.5, and the patch won't run because either the software is "outdated" or doesn't exist. This version came with my Pioneer A03 burner two years ago, and apparently is as old as dirt in tech-time.
