Documentary distribution

Greetings to the documentary community,

A friend of mine in Romania accompanied a group of doctors on a humanitarian mission to Nepal and shot an 8-episode documentary - it's not a Himalaya climbing project, it's more about a medical mission (although at the foot of the Big One). I have not seen the pilot yet (a short clip is available at Sign of life) but according to him, it's sort of commercial docu, bordering reality show.

I am trying to help him distribute here in the States.

Question: what type of TV studios should I try?

What do I need to know? Where do I start all together?

Thanks for the help,
