Avatars?

Someone explain to me why this board is against avatars? It's so hard to follow who is posting because everyone has a long screen name. Avatars or anything similar really help with identification at a glance.

Previously discussed, search for "avatar" or "avatars" and see:

If we ever have avatars, they would be real photographs to go with our real names.

Profile Picture/Photo is the answer

I agree with the no Avatars, but what you may want to consider is allowing a Profile Photo - that way you can have a small photo there that you feel represents you, but no one has to look at unless they view your public profile...

Oh no!

Please people, let's just keep it simple and professional. One of the reasons (the number one being of course the quality of information) I love this forum is the plain and simple interface.

If you need smileys and avatars (especially animated gifs), go to some place for kids!

I totally agree with Ervin. I just don't like the avatars, and like keeping things plain and simple.

Hey! Leave the avatars alone! They've done nothing wrong.... poor little things never had a chance... (sob).

Seriously, not needed, especially if it affects the speed of this site, (which is much improved now -thanks to Chris and the fact that he most likely refuses to leave home, and become the DVinfo recluse we all need to keep this place running).

Not for us down-to-earth people!

Quote: Oxford Dictionary - AVATAR (In Hindu mythology) the descent of a deity or released soul to earth in bodily form.

One thing about this site - apart from the treasure-trove of help and information is the fact that it is free from avatars. I am a down-to-earth human being and have no allusions of grandeur.

But would be kinda cool! But it would shatter the images of what I've already expected all of you to look like in my head.

I agree with no avatars. It makes the forums look like a Geocities site from 1995.
