2nd Annual DVC/UWOL Charity Challenge Sign Up!

Hey Everyone!

It's back again: The DV Challenge and The Under Water Over Land Challenge are teaming up for a holiday shootout!

It’s not really a competition between the two. It is a way for people in both contests to participate in one common-theme challenge while gathering as large a donation as we can for one worthy charity. That means we will vote on films from both forums’ submissions for ONE winner. The winner gets to choose which charity receives the donation. Those who submit a film as well as those who donate will judge the films. Guidelines for judging will be discussed later in the contest.

You don't have to sign up to donate, and you don't have to donate to sign up! To donate to the charity pool, simply decide how much you'd like to kick in, and PayPal it to us at softserveinc@hotmail.com. We'll promptly add your name to the donors list at the end of this post, as well as keep a running total of the charity pool.

When the winner is chosen, he or she will get to donate the entire pool, in their name, to the charity of their choice. What a great holiday gift to be able to give to those in need!

If when sending a charity donation, you could send a quick email at the same time it would be much appreciated! Send your email to thedvchallenge@gmail.com

Sign up begins right now and will remain open throughout the contest. The theme will be announced Thursday, Dec. 10. Films must be submitted by midnight, Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010. That's a full month, folks!

Maximum film length is five minutes, with an extra 15-20 seconds or so allowed for credits. The usual rules will be laid out in the theme announcement.

We had a blast last year so join the fun and sign up now!!

And of course, don't forget to check out our prize package of over $1500 in gear!

Dale Guthormsen December 6th, 2009 01:14 PM

Good afternoon,

Well, I am not near the film maker most of you are!!! I really am more just a camera guy, this I have come to realize being involved in the uwol challenges.

However, even though i do not know the theme, will have to shoot in SD this round (camera is out on repairs), I will try to put something togther, so count me in.

If nothing else it will really make you guys look good.

Will totally adhere to rule 11.

Dick Mays December 6th, 2009 05:28 PM

I'm in. Here to help defend the DVChallengers from those UWOL pretenders...

I mean, how hard is it to shoot a rock?

Sometimes the rock is a few hundred meters into a water filled cave... ;)

Ah! This is where the misunderstanding about real film talent starts to play out with you DV people! The finesse in filming a rock is to be there to catch the moment it moves. Yes! That is right! Never stopped to think about the difficulties involved with that? It takes nerve, grit, stamina, patience and fortitude! Something us UWOLers are very familiar with!

HA! It looks likes a good old fashioned rivalry is starting to spice up this charity challenge! ;-).

Cat Russell
(A true UWOLer at heart, but secretly am so impressed with the DVCers!)

Meryem Ersoz December 7th, 2009 12:02 PM

If we were truly evil, we would require all the UWOLers to shoot Hollywood-style narrative films and make all the DVCers shoot rocks in underwater caves. And Chris Barcellos would have to shoot both.

Good thing we only masquerade as evil, mwahaha.

Trond Saetre December 7th, 2009 03:02 PM

That could have been interesting, and a real challenge for sure.

So Meryem, should we start finding suitable rocks for the DVC gang? ;)
UWOL rule 11 will be strictly followed at all times.

William Gardner December 7th, 2009 07:27 PM

I'm in, though I think I could build a 3 bedroom house-of-shame with all of my walls-of-shame from missing so many DVCs in a row.

Bill

Scott Nelson December 7th, 2009 07:59 PM

Oh what that heck... I suppose it can't hurt... I'm in...

William James Ryan December 7th, 2009 09:31 PM

I want to play, count me in

Lorinda Norton December 8th, 2009 11:39 AM

Deadline extension!!!

Dylan is really in the Christmas spirit! He wants to give more time to everyone on these films after the holidays, so.....if you'll notice the change in the original post, the deadline for submissions is now Sunday, January 10, 2010!!

Merry Christmas! :)

What's so special about that rock? A rock is a rock! Shoot one against a green screen, do a little aftereffects, and voila! I rock in a water filled tunnel!

Thought I'd start the trash talking early...

Trond Saetre December 8th, 2009 12:31 PM

It's the one of a kind rock of wisdom :)

Rob Evans December 8th, 2009 02:43 PM

Temptation has got the better of me. I'm in!

OK...that's it....find your actors and we'll gather our rocks....

I'm in....

Philip Howells December 8th, 2009 11:18 PM

I'd like to try please.

Lorinda Norton December 9th, 2009 11:17 AM

This judge has a soft spot for people who sign up before they know the theme...extra points for you guys. ;) The rest of you lookers have one more day to sign up before we announce it. You know you want to! :)

As long as I’m here....I’m in. Not eligible for the contest but can’t seem to stop trying my hand at short films.

Brandon Ersoz December 9th, 2009 12:20 PM

I'm in

I'm in, sounds like fun

Brendan Marnell December 9th, 2009 04:58 PM

Let me in please?

I know I'll be slinking away unless the theme is along the lines of ... "Come into my parlour, said the ..." but no hassle, shame comes natural to me!

Mike Calla December 9th, 2009 06:11 PM

ummm, it's Dec 10th.....here.....in China:)

My last DVC challenge, was a no show, due to international family matters...so while technically this is my second DVC, in reality...

...I can't wait to do my FIRST DVC Challenge!!!

Dale Guthormsen December 9th, 2009 07:52 PM

Green screen the rock, but fit this in?

background music to be "Rock of Ages" or "Rock me Baby"
