nathan what media do you use?

Ed Smith February 13th, 2004 02:58 PM

As mentioned your problem is with the software and not the Burner. Normally people buy a seperate authoring package. But can understand the people who might buy the burner because of the software.

Being the latest technology every software manufacturer will have to change their code slightly for it. Give it a couple of months and i'm sure there'll be patches in the authoring software to accomendate the A07.

So does the A07 do 2x or 4x DVD-RW ? I have no reason to upgrade unless a unit has 4x RW capability. The specs from the Pioneer site say the A07 does 4x in -RW and +RW. I see 4x DVD+RW media for sale. The fastest DVD-RW I've found is 2x.
I read that some sort of DVD committee was waiting to approve a
faster DVD-RW spec. So, does this drive actually do 4x DVD-RW?
Has any tried 4x RW in DVD-RW or DVD+RW? Thanks.

and

have 4x DVD+RW but only 2x DVD-RW.

Sorry, I never use RW's. I've been using 2x and 4x -R's with no problem.

Gints Klimanis February 20th, 2004 08:39 PM

Thanks, Jeff.

I like to use the DVD-RWs for all sorts of DVD experimentation,
especially menu tweaks. So, I'd prefer a really fast solution.
Another drag is that the DVD spec seems to require that a DVD be about 1/3 (maybe 1/4) full at a minimum, or at least that's the case with my authoring tools.

I already looked into that, Nero does not suport the drive...

did you check the list??

Yes, it does support it. You missed that the A07 and 107 are the same thing.

DVD-RW DVR-107D EIDE/ATAPI 8/4xDVD+R/RW, 8/4xDVD-R/RW 24x24 - x x 5.5.10.54+/6.3.0.0E+

So, you need update 5.5.10.54 or 6.3.0.0e .

The A07/107 is probably the best recorder on the market. It ranks really high on error correction on reads. It also entered the market capable of burning at 8x in -r and +r.

That's true indeed. The 107 is OEM model of the A07. Still weird
they haven't put up the A07 on the list when the previous
models are on there. Oh well, probably a glitch.

I just got my 107 about 2 hours ago. Nero sees it for what it is. I only have 2x media, so that is how DVD-R shows. I will make a burn tonight with Liquid Edition

We have had success with a07 and the latest version of nero...Finally...a bit of a maze to go through to get things to come together...

we had some problem with our 4x media burning at 4x so we burned it at 2x, no issues...

what i like about the a07 vs the sony is the ability to burn 1x, when you need it (i'm talking about dvd-r here)

bottom line, unless you want to invest more money on the latest version of nero good luck with the a07, i was so frustrated i returned it only to buy it back again later when nero arrived

when i bought an a03 the supplied software, prassi has zero issues, and worked very pro, this proves that supplied software doesn't have to be an after thought

There is a price war on right now. The 107 (just a drive) can be found a dollar under $130 at a lot of places. ;)

I see the LaCie external 8x drive w/ Toast 6 is selling for about $250.00. I understand this is the A07 drive. This seems pretty reasonable considerering you get an external drive w/software for Mac. I've heard good things about Toast but I'm not sure how professional looking the finished product is. Any one had experiance w/it?
