I wonder if you bought a Firestore (or other product that used SATA as the drive) If you could open it and just replace the hard drive with a solid state sata like this one.

FireStores use IDE drives. You should be able to pretty easily modify them to use a CF card, using something like this:

Something like that would suck a lot less juice than a hard drive too.
