FCP X & exFat
Hi everyone,
I've a external harddisk formatted to exFat. Although I can see the HDD in the Finder, FCP X doesn't seem to 'recognised' it. What could be the problem? |

Re: FCP X & exFat
exFAT is used to share larger than 2Gb files with Windows users. Apple doesn't license Windows NTFS, the default disk format for PCs, for whatever reason. exFAT is what is installed as a drive format instead. I purchased a NTFS formatter extension for my Mac as I would occasionally encounter clients whose Windows computers would not recognize exFAT drives. There might be some issues that make an exFAT drive not ideal for FCPX although I read about one person who claimed to be editing from exFAT drives. I have not tried nor will I.

Re: FCP X & exFat
Have you run "Verify Disk" from Disk Utility to check permissions?
I have one external LaCie drive that keeps getting corrupted so FCP7 can't access it. A "Verify Disk" followed by "Repair Disk" solves the issue. Perhaps it's the same reason FCPX can't "see" it.
