Timeline has disappeared

Near the end of a week plus editing of a one hour video . Needed to split audio from video on one particular clip. Highlighted, I thought, the clip, went into "Clip" on FCPX, but "separate audio" greyed out.
But the Timeline disappeared. All that's there is the grey background, black where the Timeline should be.
All I see on the top of the (blank) Timeline looking right from "Index" is "BHG 5 00:00" which the clip I tried to alter.
(Events showing correctly in the viewer.)

HELP!

Looks as if it's frozen on the offending clip albeit no video, no audio.
