Ram and CPU - FCP
I would like to know how much ram and how many cpu's FCP can actually use. I would think apple would have a document on this subject, but I can't find it. Can someone help?

It depends what else you are running and your hardware config. In general 2-4 GB is enough.

4gB is the most FCP can access with the present versions.

FCP's use of multi-core typically isn't great and I think FCP doesn't see more than 4gig of RAM. Compressor though can be setup to take better advantage of multiple cores and larger amounts of RAM (good to know if you use Compressor a lot).
Snow Leopard (the next version of OS X expected to be unveiled in Jan '09) is supposed to pave the way for better multi-core awareness on the Mac platform so hopefully the next version of FC (most likely unveiled at NAB '09) will get a significant speed boost by being better able to maximize the hardware out there. -A |
